Task Management API

A side project written to learn Nest.js properly: modules, controllers and services, built alongside a plain Express implementation of the same API so the architectural differences were concrete rather than theoretical.

Role / Stack

Backend — solo

Node.jsExpressNest.jsMongoDB

What I built

  • — Task management REST API with MongoDB persistence.
  • — Nest.js structure: modules, controllers, services, dependency injection.
  • — A comparable Express implementation for side-by-side comparison.

Responsibilities

  • — API design and data modelling.
  • — Comparing framework conventions and where the structure pays off.
  • — Using AI tooling for boilerplate while keeping the architecture decisions deliberate.

A note from the work

Nest.js structure earns its overhead once a codebase has multiple domains. I've used it on personal work and one small internal service — not yet on a large production Nest codebase, and I'd rather say so.
